Whispering Pine Press, Inc. was established in 1999 by Karen Jean Matsko Hood as an enterprise that would enable her to organize, format, bring to print and market the large number of unique ideas and projects she has envisioned and continues to develop today. A woman of high energy and endowed with a wealth of creativity, Ms. Hood is someone who is driven to be involved with her interests and passions, whether it be her advocacy for effective adoptive and foster parenting, the rights of abused and neglected children, her love of gaited horses and country living, her poetry, love of cooking, feministic outlook, patriotism or her love for nature. Whispering Pine Press, Inc. possesses the capability of enabling expression in all these areas and more. Furthermore, under Ms. Hood’s guidance, the company seeks to support the literacy program for children and adults, as well as provide our works in bi-lingual editions wherever possible. Now more than five years later, Whispering Pine Press, Inc. (WPP) continues full-steam-ahead with these projects while actively seeking other writing talents with whom to work. The employees of WPP are dedicated to the task of furthering the goals of authors through the creation of marketing tools, through the presentation and promotion of forthcoming works at publishing industry events and by making them readily available to vendors and retail venues. In addition, our staff works with agencies that, if needed, can provide a full range of services that can take a rough manuscript and produce a finished product--from proofreading and editing to print formatting, graphic design work, print shop submission and job tracking…all the way to the management of sales details. Our staff is highly trained and dedicated to providing the best service available in the publishing industry today. WPP holds memberships in the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA) and the Publishers Marketing Association, and will be presenting our line of books at the 2005 PNBA Spring & Fall Tradeshows. If you are considering publishing with Whispering Pine Press, Inc., you will first need to submit a printed copy of your manuscript for our editorial staff to examine in order to determine whether it meets our criteria for being published under the WPP name. Also at this time, our staff will determine what, if any, editorial work needs to be addressed prior to going to the printer. If your manuscript needs further editing, with your approval, we can refer it to another agency for this work--should you desire it--which can then provide you with a projected cost estimate for their services. If your manuscript appears ready for print as is, we will contact you upon completion of our examination to discuss contract terms. Payment for all works that are accepted for publication under the Whispering Pine Press, Inc. banner will be in the form of royalty percentages only. We do not pay outright for manuscripts or other publishable materials. We are seeking to publish books by authors that share our vision of making available wholesome reading and educational materials that are aimed at today’s family. WPP especially welcomes unpublished works that represent life in Washington State’s Inland Empire or North Central regions, or the Pacific Northwest as a whole. We are foremost a grassroots publishing enterprise with a desire to explore our common experiences here at home. In addition, we also welcome authors of books that offer learning opportunities for children as well as those that reflect the spiritual and social realities that are shared by all.
